This latest installment picked up shortly after the end of book three, with Barrett still in berserker form and afraid to return to the pack, lest he lose control. The fortuitous appearance of mage Evan, with his ability to calm Barrett and bring him back to himself, was just the start of their tale—one which I highly recommend. I enjoyed their careful regard as they got to know each other, and I appreciated the lack of manufactured drama, even when things around them were in chaos. There were troubled times, but the two actually talked and figured things out. So refreshing! I can’t wait to see how the author pairs up the next mage and wolf in book five; it feels like it will be the last, and I’m hoping for a strong finish to the series.
